Pier Pressure

Sunday just past lived up to its name. It was sunny, warm and I had no plans. What to do, what to do. I fancied going to the seaside, but had left it too late to go anywhere decent. On a whim I decided on Weston-Super-Mare, because it's only about an hour away and I hadn't been there for over ten years.

"The pier! The amusement arcade! The promenade! Donkeys!" I exclaimed, trying to sell it to Hannes. He agreed and off we went. In my head I had visions of snapping loads of cute pictures on the pier and in front of vintage/retro looking amusements. Hmmm. The reality is that W-S-M is kind of a dive (sorry anyone who lives there) and the 'Grand Pier' is loud, gaudy and far from cute. I couldn't even go on the ferris wheel that was near the beach mud because it was an extortionate five pounds per person for a ride. Um, no.

Oh well - you live and learn! Life isn't perfect. And now we know not to bother going to Weston. Despite the disappointment we made the most of it and managed to have a nice day. The donkeys were supercute as always (I love how they have their names on their headbands) and I did manage to snap a couple of pretty cool shots.

As you can see from my cheesy grin, I was pretty excited by the Hello Kitty amusements in the arcade. I tried to win a Hello Kitty in the grabby-robot-hand thing, but no luck. I almost, almost had one, then it dropped it at the last moment. Dang it. It's not like I need any more toys anyhow!

You can kinda see my new haircut in these pics. It feels much shorter, even though I only had the back cut. It's now a proper bob and I think it looks more like an actual style, rather than a growing-out-mess.

On the way home we popped into a garden centre. They had a pet section and I fell in love with this adorable little mouse. Isn't she pretty?! She was dwarfed by the food bowl. I always wanted a pet mouse since I was little, after reading The Witches where the main character carries his mice around in his pockets and trains them to walk tightropes and do tricks. The description in the garden centre said 'Fancy Mouse', which made me love her even more. We have our hands full with animals already, so I begrudgingly had to leave her there. Sad face.

Now I'm counting down to the weekend because from Friday Hannes has nine whole days off work. Also, next Friday is my birthday! Yay! And we're going away for a mini holiday - double yay! More about that soon.

Hope you're having a wonderful week.

xx

  3. At least you got some awesome photos out of the trip! I love donkeys! It's my life goal to own a mini donkey. Also, I get you on the pets thing. My husband constantly tells me I'm at my pet limit (we have 4). I think he's totally wrong. ;)

  5. I've never been to W-S-M myself, I'd probably still go given the chance. I just like to go new place whether they are good or bad, you can usually make the most of it when you go with a special person.
I love the new hair! Super cute!

As much as the mouse is cute, it reminds me too much of work... I can't stand to look at them any more :(

It's been too long since I've been to the seaside! I can't wait go in the summer :)

    1. I wouldn't bother - go to a proper seaside instead! W-S-M is on an estuary, so it's not really a beach and the sea is never in. No chance of a paddle :( But yes, we did make the most of the day...next time we'll stick to real coastal places that we know are nice.

Thank you - I'm still getting used to the hair!
What do you for work? x
