100th post! Teacup Tuesday #2 - Duck egg blue & gold
This is my 100th blog post! I think that deserves a little celebration! *Pulls party poppers* Yay!
Round two of Teacup Tuesday and today it's a gorgeous duck egg blue and gold set. I picked up this teaset several years ago in a charity shop. It comprises of a large serving plate, four side plates, a milk jug, sugar bowl and four teacups. Unfortunately the saucers were missing, so I have to make do using the side plates, which is fine size-wise, but without the groove in which to 'sit' the cup, they slide about rather precariously.
The set is fine bone china and was made by Colclough - a china company founded in 1890. The company rapidly expanded, was visited by King George V and Queen Mary in 1913, who licensed Colclough to make a line of royal china, became popular in the 1930s and after several mergers and takeovers, the brand stopped manufacture in 1996.*
I tried to research my specific teaset, but to no avail. I've emailed a lady who seems to know a lot about the company and I'm hoping she can at least tell me when it might have been made. It's incredibly delicate and fragile, which makes me think it could be quite old.
Whatever its history, it is so pretty and feels very fancy. I just love the colour combination and dainty bands of gold.
Hope you're having a sunny Tuesday!
