Friday Favourites #28

What a whirlwind of a week it's been. I've been in a bit of a daze since the sad news of Robin Williams earlier in the week. It set a sombre feeling, which hasn't really lifted, but as always, I've been looking for light in the little things, which I love to share with you all.

Sunday breakfast at my favourite café.

Adding to my already ridiculous collection of sticky notes. For 74p, how could I not.

Harvesting homegrown vegetables from the garden. So many potatoes and those carrots were unbelievably delicious.

An excellent mail day. I saw this knitting bag in a charity shop a few years ago, but it was manky, stained and had a big hole in it. I've been on the lookout for one ever since and finally got my paws on one! And it's in almost perfect condition, yippee! I also treated myself to this cute brooch, which I've had my eye on for a while.

I'm obsessed with my flower press and have been scouring hedgerows and verges everywhere I go, for wild flowers to press. My most recent lot turned out great and I can't wait to make pretty things with them. I have a rose from my garden in it at the moment - I really hope it presses well.

I haven't painted my nails for months. I go through phases of loving painting my nails, then end up hating how it looks and only wanting natural nails. I have to admit that I am not a fan of 'nail art' at all. The more elaborate the design, the more I hate it. Having said that, I do like a simple flourish, so I combined my love of pastels and scalloped edges and painted my nails thus. I'm pretty smitten with how cute they look.

These two! Such a bromance. The black kitty, who I've named Troubadour, is a stray (I think), but he totally adores Soldier and the two of them can be found, most evenings, hanging out together in the garden or on the driveway. Be still my heart!
I'm still trying to tame him, but he is so scared of people. I feed him and have managed to stroke him, but so far he seems stubbornly resistant to my kitty tamer charms. At least I can keep an eye on him and make sure he gets some food.

My last favourite this week is a BBC America TV show that I've become obsessed with - Orphan Black. I wasn't convinced after the first episode or two, but I'm glad I stuck with it, because it's so good! The main character, Sarah, witnesses the suicide of a woman who looks identical to her. She takes over her identity, but has no idea what she's getting into, as she meets more women who are the spitting image of her. I don't want to give away the story, so just go watch it! There are two seasons (season one is on Netflix) and season three is in the works.
Tatiana Maslany, the actress who plays Sarah and all her doppelgangers, is fantastic: I completely forget that they're played by the same person, because each character is so distinct, with their voice, accent and mannerisms. Orphan Black gets pretty darn tense, but still has some laugh-out-loud moments, so if you're a fan of shows such as Dexter and Criminal Minds, you should love this.

  1. I've been on the lookout for something new to watch, I might just give this a go. I like a little bit of suspense.

Those flowers look really great after pressing, do you have any plans for them? i don't know too much about it, wondered how you keep them.

    1. Hope you're enjoying Orphan Black!
I'm very much still learning with the flower pressing. I'm going to be making some stationery with this lot and framing some of them. They need to be kept flat in a paper bag or something non-abrasive until you use them, as they're VERY delicate. And away from any moisture.
