Life Lately

It occurred to me that I haven't really done a personal post for a while. I put snippets of each week in my Friday Favourites, but it's been a while since we've sat down for a good ol' chat, so that's what we're going to do today!

Where do I start?!

Firstly, what the heck - it's October?! Where on earth has this year gone?! I started a new job back in July, which I've vaguely mentioned a couple of times. I resigned from my old job, which I hadn't actually worked at since I got sick in 2012. I was signed off for two years and it got to the point where I just knew I didn't want to go back. Shortly after I resigned, the tiny bit of benefit I was getting ended and, it soon became apparent that I couldn't live on nothing. I really didn't want to end up (or even start) chipping away at my savings, so I knew I was going to have to find another job. Due to my ongoing health issues and side effects from the treatment I received, I can only work part time. My new job is two days a week, which I can just about manage. I'm working at a natural history charity and as far as jobs go, it's pretty OK. It's office based and there's no pressure or deadlines, which is a welcome relief after my old job. My boss is lovely (another nice change!) as are my other colleagues.
We're a very small team and have a good laugh in the office...and way too many cakes!

It's a struggle not to overdo things and I'm often exhausted on my days off. My energy is very slowly improving though, so I hope to continue with my creative work on my free days and get my online store up and running before Christmas. I doodled the above little vignette, to welcome October and autumn.

I've booked a holiday! I mentioned it briefly in a previous post, but it's going to be here before I know it: in November, I'm off to visit two of my best friends, Mary and Trish, who live in Kentucky, USA. I went to stay with them every autumn, until I got cancer. It's now been three years since I've been able to visit, so this is going to be one amazing reunion! I can't believe it's been so long and I can't wait to be back in their apartment, lounging around in our PJs, with the fluffies (Dougie the Pomeranian, and Fleur and Daisy the kitties), catching up and laughing 'til we cry.
These girls are so special to me. When I was ill and scared, feeling so poorly I could barely leave the house, they were there, every day, sending me texts and voice recordings, pictures and videos. They were there to support me and boost me up, from all the way across the Atlantic ocean, when many people here, in my home town, weren't. Needless to say, I can't WAIT to see them!

I'm nervous, as it'll be my first time away from home on my own, since before I was sick. For the last few years my world has been very small, for obvious reasons, so to suddenly be faced with travelling four thousand miles on my own, is...daunting, to say the least! I'm not looking forward to the longass journey to get there. I'll be taking a taxi ride, a three hour coach journey and two planes. I do not enjoy flying at all and I'm worried that almost twenty four hours of travel are going to take a big chunk of time out my holiday in recovery time. But hey, I'm excited just to be able to go at all! Once I'm there, I will have the best time.

I've been enjoying some canine company lately, in the shape of a chunky little Norwich terrier called Bertie - you may have seen some photos of him in my Friday Favourites. I can't really have my own dog until we own our own home, so for now I have to be content with borrowing other people's. I found Bertie through a site called Borrow My Doggy, which is great! I highly recommend it if you're in the same position as me and want to find local woofs to walk/look after. Bertie is such a cutie and so well behaved - even Soldier doesn't seem to mind him too much!

Finally, I have an exciting new addition arriving on Saturday! Stay tuned, as I'll be revealing more on the weekend, or early next week.

Well done if you made it this far! Not the most interesting post, but life has felt hectic lately and I needed to catch up with myself!

How are y'all doing?

xx

    1. Yes I did! Thank you! I'm always so nervous about posting my illustrations, but I guess I need to get used to it if I want to set up a shop!
Aaah, the new addition will soon be revealed! I'm super excited about it! xx

  2. That site sounds so strange, borrow my doggie, but I guess if it helps get your dogged walked and such it's not a bad thing.

Looking forward to hearing about your trip in November!

    1. I thought so at first, but it's a great idea - it matches you up with people in your area who need help walking/looking after their dog, for whatever reason. Its all insured and verified, so it's not like you just meet up with some weirdo!
