Ed's Easy Diner

Howdy hepcats!

We all I know I love a good diner and so, when I was in Cardiff recently, for all of about two hours, I just had to head to Ed's Easy Diner and check it out.

A lot of the time, I am disappointed by diner themed restaurants. In my opinion, it's really not hard to make it authentic, but some of the places I've been - holy smokes, you'd think they didn't even know what a diner is.

I am happy to report that Ed's Easy Diner is one of the best I've been to, hoorah! I didn't have my camera with me, so I had to make do with my phone camera and crappy mall lighting, egh.

Hannes and I both ordered the same thing. As the law says that you can't go to a diner without having a milkshake, we had to ditch our dairy-free diet for an afternoon. We chowed down on Cajun vegeburgers (spicyyy, but yum), which you can either have on its own, or as a plate - which includes fries, onion rings and coleslaw. We were pretty hangry, so we went for the plate option. Holy moley, that was a lot of food and I haven't even got to the milkshake yet.

Once our eyes caught sight of 'Nutella milkshake' on the menu, our choice had been made. Each served in a metal jug, because there's too much to fit into a one glass serving, these milkshakes were essentially a pint of ice cream and, hot diggity damn, it was absolutely incredible. I would go so far as to say it's the best milkshake I've ever had. True story.

The food was good, the staff were great and even though we had to wait a while for a table, it was totally worth it. I loved the attention to detail, especially the tabletop jukeboxes they have dotted around the place, which you can actually choose music from! Eating our burgers to the sounds of the 50s added a great atmosphere and authenticity. Plus, all the money from the jukeboxes goes to charity - fab! My only criticism is the fries - they are not fries, they are chips. I would much prefer proper French fries when at a diner. Other than that, Ed's gets a very high score on my diner league table.

Ed's is a chain of diners, so check out their website to see if there's one near you! Cardiff is my closest one - bogus! I really hope they open one nearer to me soon...although, that would be bad news for my waistline!

See ya later, alligator!

xx

  1. I haven't been to a good diner restaurant in ages! Since we're in Belgium, I'm always on the look out for fish and chips so diners kind of slip my mind. But the last one I went to was up in Middlesbrough a year ago maybe, from what I remember, it was really good :)

    1. Ah yes, it must be hard being in a different country sometimes!
In a way I guess I'm glad there isn't a diner near me, because it keeps it as a special treat...and I'd be the size of a house if there was one in my hometown!

  2. That meal looks yummy!! I've not been to a diner in many years, the last one was a place in London and I think I had a milkshake. I would love to go to one now so I could appreciate the vintageness of the 50's as that is my favourite era. Oh and the Nutella milkshake sounds amazing :) xx
